If you are a fan of the Dune series, by Frank Herbert, then you probably have an indelible image of the desert planet Arrakis, or "Dune", etched into your psyche. Not since Tolkien has an author created such a "real" place, or one as dramatic in scope. It has been recreated on the big screen and, in my opinion, it was quite a spirited effort - despite its flaws.

However, there is nothing like your own imagination! I make it a point to re-read the series about once a year (I find it always very instructional) and recently went through it again. I decided it was time to create some icons and to do some visualizing of my own. We had considered doing some Dune icons as part of our Sci-Fi Objects set, but that set was more about movies and TV, and I really wanted to be free to interpret certain things in my own way. Now, you may have your own very specific ideas about how some objects in this set should look, but I hope you will enjoy my interpretations as well! After all, it is a big planet... and there is plenty of room in the trackless deserts of Arrakis for all our imaginations!

  35. How To make Use of the Icons:

  37. Download Icondropper from the Iconfactory!

  41. 1. You need system 7 or higher.
  42. 2. Do a "Get Info" (File menu) on the origina icon file that you want to use.
  43. 3. Click on the icon in the window; choose "Copy" (Edit menu).
  44. 4. Close the window, then "Get Info" on destination file/disk.
  45. 5. Click on the icon, choose "Paste" (Edit menu).
  46. 6. Don't forget to e-mail us and let me know what you think!

  48. On replacing the trash icon:
  49. Many people ask us how to go about replacing their Mac's trash icon with a custom one. There are several ways to go about replacing the trash icon, but we don't recommend messing around with system resources unless you are fairly versed with ResEdit. If you're not sure you want to mess with the guts of your Mac's system files then may we recommend a program called Zonkers! from Nova Development. Zonkers provides users with a safe, fast and easy way to customize ALL system level icons with the click of a mouse (unless you're running Mac OS 8). If you'd like to learn more about Zonkers! for the Mac and all the neat things it can do then head for: <http://www.novadevcorp.com>
